Magic, Puppets, and a Devilishly Good Wish Punch

When the Christmas season shines in Düsseldorf, a unique magical ritual begins at Palais Wittgenstein: The satanarchaeolügenialcoholic Wish Punch returns to the stage of the Düsseldorf Puppet Theater on December 18, 2026. Michael Ende's thought-provoking magic farce combines dark humor, wordplay, and artistic puppet theater into a special stage experience for adults and children aged eight and up.

A Race Against the Last Bell Tolls

Beelzebub Irrwitzer and his Aunt Tyti have not fulfilled their quota of evil deeds. On New Year's Eve, they have only one risky plan: they brew the legendary Wish Punch, whose magical power can turn good wishes into their opposite. Amidst cauldrons, incantations, and ticking time, a turbulent drama unfolds, where selfishness, responsibility, and the hope for salvation clash.

Puppet Theater with Literary Bite

The production transforms Ende's fantastic cosmos into a precisely choreographed world of puppets, voices, and atmospheric stage play. The direction focuses on pointed acting, visible craftsmanship, and the special magic of puppet theater: movements become character traits, lighting moods intensify the tension, and each performance gains the precision of a small theatrical clockwork.

A Düsseldorf Cult Piece for Christmas Time

The Wish Punch has been a staple of the Düsseldorf Puppet Theater's repertoire for decades. With more than 1,400 performances, the magic farce is reportedly at the top of the audience's preference. The combination of a fantastic plot, fine wordplay, and handcrafted stage design creates an intergenerational theater experience that invites laughter, wonder, and reflection alike.

Atmosphere at Palais Wittgenstein

In the historic Palais Wittgenstein, the performance unfolds its intimate theater atmosphere. The proximity to the stage sharpens the view of costumes, character guidance, and the artistic acoustics of the house. Great dramatic moments emerge from small gestures; from the steaming cauldron grows a world where fantasy and societal jabs are closely interconnected.

Conclusion: Christmas Magic with Dark Humor

The Wish Punch promises an imaginative stage experience full of wordplay, suspense, and craftsmanship in theater. Those who want to experience Michael Ende's magical world live and discover the special magic of the Düsseldorf Puppet Theater will find a delightful evening in the pre-Christmas season here.
