Magical Christmas Magic with Michael Ende's Wish Punch

When the New Year's Eve night approaches at the Düsseldorf Puppet Theatre, a magical race against time begins: The satanarchaeolügenialkohöllische Wish Punch returns as a lovingly maintained Düsseldorf Christmas tradition to the stage. The magical play based on Michael Ende combines black humor, poetic fantasy, and skillful puppet handling into an extraordinary stage experience for adults and children aged eight and above.

A Hellish Plan with Comedic Rhythm

Beelzebub Irrwitzer and his Aunt Tyti have not fulfilled their quota of evil deeds. On New Year's Eve, they are left with only a risky plan: with a magical punch, they want to make up for the missed misdeeds at the last minute. The dramaturgy drives the mismatched duo through a grotesque world of time pressure, magic, and surprising twists.

Puppets Between Poetry and Black Humor

The production thrives on the precise acting of the puppets and the visible puppeteers, who give the figures a peculiar, morbid vitality. The stage design, lighting atmosphere, and acoustics open up a fairy-tale space where a punch bowl made of cold fire, a bone organ, grotesque apparatuses, and other magical stage effects come together to create an imaginative theater panorama.

Michael Ende’s Classic as a Düsseldorf Cult Piece

Michael Ende maintained a close connection with the Düsseldorf Puppet Theatre. Together with the theater, the stage adaptation of the 1989 bestseller was created. The production is one of the most frequently performed in the house and represents a blend of literary fantasy, musical composition, and artisan puppetry. Ende himself praised the performance as enchanting, humorous, and poetic.

A Christmas Evening for Multiple Generations

The theater atmosphere in the Palais Wittgenstein combines festive anticipation with exuberant comedy. Children discover talking puppets, fantastic transformations, and spectacular effects, while adults enjoy the satirical undertones, the refined direction, and the loving references. The performance lasts approximately 130 minutes, including a break.

Conclusion: A Fairy-Tale Stage Experience in Düsseldorf

The Wish Punch offers its audience an evening of theater full of fantasy, wit, and handcrafted stage magic. Those who want to experience the Düsseldorf Christmas tradition live, rediscover Michael Ende's wit, and admire artful puppetry up close will find a special occasion for a joint theater visit on December 16, 2026.
