Magical Puppet Art for Christmas: The Wish Punch in Düsseldorf

When the lights dim in Palais Wittgenstein and the puppets take up their strings, a witty Christmas adventure begins: The Wish Punch is guest performing on December 5, 2026, at the Düsseldorf Puppet Theater. Michael Ende's magical play combines darkly humorous fantasy, fairy-tale imagery, and artistic puppetry tradition to create a special stage experience for adults and children from the age of 8.

A Hellish Race Against New Year's Eve

Beelzebub Irrwitzer and his Aunt Tyti have not fulfilled their quota of evil deeds. They have little time left until New Year's Eve to make up for the missed spells. The titular wish punch promises a grotesque solution and unleashes a dramatic chase between magic, morality, and the impending end of the world.

Michael Ende's Fantasy as Puppetry

The production is based on Michael Ende's book and translates its wordplay-filled fantasy into precise puppet direction. The set design, lighting, and acoustics create a theatrical atmosphere where every movement carries meaning. Between dark comedy and fairy-tale wonder, a dramaturgy unfolds that directly reaches young audiences and surprises adults with subtle humor.

A Düsseldorf Theater Tradition

The Düsseldorf Puppet Theater counts The Wish Punch among its audience favorites. The magical play has been on the program for decades and has reportedly experienced more than 1,400 performances according to theater sources. Thus, the production is one of the defining puppetry experiences of the house and combines classic puppet art with a timeless plea against thoughtlessness and destructive power.
